Hi,

I just bought a new (euro, german spec) e60 with nav business, bluetooth and voice commands. iDrive and navigation is in english, but when I press the voice commands button I get a german response. I asked my dealer if this could be reporgrammet to get english, but they sid to get english I need to get a new voice module - cost: $ 3000 !!

NO WAY I'd pay $3000 to get this in English, so PLEASE tell me they are wrong - and that a software uppdate is all that is needed!

I think its possisible via software. Your dealer doesn't know what hes talking about. Do a search here, it has been brought up many times.

That's a relief. Not that I think I'll use the option that much, but it will annoy me knowing it is there and that I can't use it.

If someone has some more details to shed some light on this, please let me know!

Thanks.

HELLO atta_svg and welcome to this great forum!!

IT IS possible to change the language. i am positive about this!

i just got the Bluetooth enabled in my car two days ago and it was programed in german, i asked my dealer about this and he said he would change it.

I came back an hour later and voil?, i had a spanish speaking lady in my car! (my native language of course)

So, dont let your dealer give you any BS. you don't have to buy anything.

confirmed.

The same was done on my car here in the Netherlands too. First I had German commands with iDrive languages: D, GB and F. Now I have UK English commands with GB, F and ES. (Why Spanish was added with UK english I don't understand - one would expect it with US english- for Mexico and California - but nevertheless it works.

I must admit partly with your dealer that reprogramming the car is some hocus pocus though (he has to struggle with some country codes etc.)

Yes it can be changed by the dealer, on an earlier s/w update my car was returned with german lady on voice commands even though i-drive language was set to English. Dealer reinstalled software and set voice commands to English without difficulty.

Yes! I got my car reprogrammed and everything works fine! A small curiosity; The voice input confirmation voice belongs to a British lady (accent), while the navigation system directs me with an American lady accent.

I now have three ladies in the car when another lady is in the passenger seat

Anyway, it was only a software upgrade/reprogramming.

Yes! The language for voice command can be changed from German to English.

When my car was delivered to me I had German voice commands and the dealer re-programmed my car for free to English voice command.

Same thing happened too me. Dealer reprogrammed an send me a 200 euro bill.. I called them to tell them everybody got it changed for free so I wanted it too.. They told me I didn't have to pay it.

That was an easy 200 euro earned in a 2 minute call!!!
