i put the middle grade once in my car (89 octane) and my car started knocking!!! luckily i only put about 1/2 tank, so i drained that quickly and ever since then i put the highest available at the pump.
It doesn't rally hurt your wallet if you use the highest grade...it's only about $3.00 difference in a full tank.

Are you saying your car's engine started knocking immediatley after you filled up with 89?

maybe after 10 minutes or so....i don't really let my tank go completely empty in between fill ups though. I was just testing to see what would happen and i only put 1/2 tank that time. It's weird becuase in my 540 E39 i would use the middle grade and the engine was always smooth.

well where I live the price difference can be anywhere from 20 to 40 cents. So to many people it may be worth it.
well.....even at 40 cents difference, thats only like 7 bucks less with a 18gal fill up
