gas cap sign question

My Ride: E46 330, E60 550 on order: Carbon Black/Natural Brown, 6MT.
Are you topping up the tank when you fill it up? You can get that message if you overfill the tank and some gas leaks into the charcoal canister, which captures the fumes from the tank.

My Ride: 2004 545i Platinum Silver Metallic Gray Dakota Leather, Premium Pack, Premium Sound, Logic 7, Sport Pack, Navi, PDC, Sunshades, Cold Weather and HUD. 56k miles Feb. 2011
I started getting "Steering Malfunction" messages since last Friday. 
I called the dealer and the SA told me just stop by and they would top off the power steering fluid. 
Since my car is still under warranty, I took it in to make sure low PS fluid is not caused by leaking and told the SA about the gas cap warning sign plus CD player advances when the car is stopped. They keep the car over night for pressure testing the PS sysem, reload the car with progman 27.1 and will replace the gas cap with a new one. 
I hope all my problems will be gone.
