That would be a logical extension of iDrive. Plus when they update your software, you wouldn't lose all your settings!
Logitech sells universal remotes that utilize a web interface to set up your various home theater settings, and access them with one button. Pretty slick, but still a bit pricey:

BMW are so concerned about negative comments about iDrive that they are developing a replacement. Might not make it into production, and will take time if it does, but it is being worked on.

Agreed. But BMW have spent money on a repacement concept.
iDrive could (should) do more. But hide the complexity behind an easy to use front end, so that technophobics can still use it.

This Pointset stuff is crap. it is just a patent that me thinks is undefendable. Their patent covers using a computer to dowload settings to an appliance in any form, such as usb, a keyfob, etc and then dowloading those settings into the car/appliance. I am no lawyer, but this would be hard to defend.
