Guys, it's a REAL photo. No photoshop tricks. No hills. Just filled the tank (with diesel) after a cruise on the motorway.
Admittedly the range goes down when I drive around town, but the image is genuine. As seen on my camcorder yesterday by other E60 owners.

Well with my heavy foot and V8. The best range my car has reported is 465 miles and the furthest I have gone on a tank is 410 miles.

Having filled up yesterday, I found this image quite entertaining.
I thought maybe there's a little fun to be had with this. Can anyone top this.
BTW the range went up to 764 shortly after.

In an E46 2.0d, I was steady motorway driving and around 55mph and the readout was showing 61.2 mpg. I pulled in to a gas station off the motorway and filled up. It has a 63 litre tank (about 14 gallon) and it showed about 790 mile range based on those calculations. Therefore, if I keep driving at the speed I achieved the 61.2 mpg I should be able to travel 790 miles before another fill. Once I sped up to 65-70 mph, the mpg figure dropped to 57 mpg reducing the range. Like yourself, I was amused to see such figures.
Fit drop tanks and see if we an break the 1000 mile range.
