I just found a piece of rubber the right thickness and glued it in place. Zen and the art of BMW maintenance.

I had the same issue. The rubber piece on mine had deteriorated into nothing. I ordered a new one from Bavauto for $8.95 + shipping. The rubber piece just slips on, not glued or anything.

So just to be sure! Is there suppose to be a rubber thing around the plunger? If so that is what I need. If anybody can upload a picture please do. On the inside of the fuel door there is a rubber pad that covers it and that seems to be in place.
