One word :AWESOME!
going from my R32 or the 3.2 A4 , My 535i gets awesome mileage for such a big car. 20 mpg in town ( goes up a lot with no ac , but I live in the 7th layer of Hell ( was 102 on Monday) to quote Mr. Garrison). 33mpg on the highway at a steady 75mph. At 85mph it is still around 30mpg.

I have always believed that the #2 thing guys lie about is their gas (oline) mileage. The #1 thing is the size of certain body parts. I guess that can apply to the ladies also. But I never heard a girl lie about her mileage.

Report in? Ok. After 5000 miles of V10 fun ...
Combined city/hwy average = 13 mpg
City driving only = 11 mpg
If my right foot suddenly gains 20 pounds = 9 mpg
Consumption on 800-mile roundtrip in 7th gear doing 75-80 mph = 19.1 mpg.

I just finished a 1,250 mile run. The car says I got 31.7, which I figure is actually about 30 mpg. I had good wind conditions and alot of 65 mph miles. Normally I get about 28 on the road. By the way, I'm almost to 74,000 miles.

2007 530xi w/sport + auto
Tracked actual fuel consumption YTD (that is Since Jan 1, 2008) mi/gal for 7K miles of mixed driving ~ 23.2mpg.
It usually computes +/- .2 mpg against the on-board computer tank to tank.
Highest avg mpg for mostly highway driving trip was approx 28mpg; Poorest tank fuel economy ~ 19.4 mpg = lots of short trips/in town driving.
xi machinery takes its toll on fuel economy as does sport package RFT's that are not as 'green' as all season tires.
