Fuel Consumption

i Have a 530d sport. I Mainly do short Town Driving and can only manage 21 mph.
the offical figures suggest that i should be doing more than 30mph.
i would like to know what sort of returns fellow members on this site manage,as i feel that there maybe something wrong with my car.
by the way i have now done 2800 miles

Hi
I have a 2004 530d 6spd manual now with 31k miles on the clock. if i just knock around the city i get around the 22-23mpg. However as i do quite a lot of motorway miles my averages change.. At present i am getting 35.3 which is over the last 2000miles of about 70% motorway miles.
Is your 530d an auto.. if so the MPG sounds OK.. never believe the BMW literature on MPG

My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.
For short town driving, that is probably not bad. Is it stop and go?
The 30 mpg is going to be highway, setting the cruise control at 70mph.
I get about 21 mpg on my 545i, but I am mainly doing a 80 mile round trip highway commute with about 5-10% stop and go. But, often that is stop and GOOOOO! I can get 25-26mpg on a trip which is what the sticker says.
Are you checking the mileage with the computer or manually? My computer calculation is off by about 5mpg (computer is calculating high).
Also, I am sure you will gain a couple mpg over the next 10k miles.

My Ride: Oxford Green E60 530D with tuning box and all the toys!
Using UK gallons and 530D with TB, I return roughly the same MPG as I can get average MPH over a tankful. So for everyday town driving, I am lucky to average 23MPH and I get about 23 MPG ish. It improved hugely when I started using cruise control at every opportunity and after the engine had done about 5000 miles.
On a long run, I can get it over 36 mpg for the tankful, but that is the best I can manage. I don't bother working it out over smaller distances than a tankful 'cos that doesn't give a realistic idea of actual consumption. I can, for example, get it over 50mpg over a 25 mile journey. I only hope that the published consumption figures are worked out to a specific standard so that although they don't equate to the real world, they at least compare to each other.
So, you may feel a little let down to be getting 20 MPG - think what the guys in their 545's must be returning!!
