I have a 2004 525i with the Flat Tire Monitor system. I would like to know if I change my stock wheels for aftermarket ones, is there any sensors that I need to transfer to the new wheels so my FTM system would continue to function properly.

Thanks,

Ponster

No, it should work fine. You just need to reinitalize the system.

Just a quick question....How long does initialization usually take anyway? Mine takes forever and I usually exit not knowing whether it's done or not. I have waited up to 5 minutes without any info appearing to say if it's done or not.

Yes I made the mistake of initializing when the car is stationery (as per instructions). You have to then drive to complete the process.

I've only had to re-initialize once and it took closer to 10 minutes of driving around before the iDrive switched from "initializing" to "working" or whatever it says. Anyway, it does take some time. I almost gave up and parked the car.

Exactly. It does take time to reinitialize the system. All you need is patience and it will complete...

I think the 10 minutes is referencing rolling time. The wheels have to be rolling for FTM to do its job. It may take a 15-20 minute drive in Dallas to get 10 minutes of rolling time. Also, I air the tires and let the car sit in the garage until I am going somewhere that will easily log in the 10 minutes of rolling time. As long as one tire isn't actively leaking, a few hours or a day in the garage after setting the correct pressures should not matter.

Yes, and this is all, strangely enough, in the manual.
I thought it was taking forever too, since the instructions are confusing as they appear on idrive. So I read the manual. You start to initialize, then start driving.
