I miss that about the suburbs. I live in Lincoln Park now and park on the street. They ticket for no plates in a heart beat.

I went 3 years in this state that requires it but never had an issue until I met this motorecycle cop that plled me over 3 times in the last 3 weeks for not having my plate-he actually never ticketed me-dumbass-but finally he said he would tow my car next time-so anywayI was NOT puttin gholes in my bumper and there is a really easy great solution.

First I took the plate and put black tape behind the 4 holes on the back side. Then I taped off the plate to leave a 1 inch border (frame) around the plate-basically I painted a gloss/jet black frame on the actual plate itself-so it essentially looks like it is in a gloss black frame. This is to keep it light and not require an actual frame.

Then took the automotive 3M thick tape and used 6 strips vertailly and used that to stick it onto the bumpber just below the kidney grilles-it is so flush and actually looks like it blends in since it is painted gloss black around the plate-then you can take it off if you ever want to sell or move without a problem. Have had this for weeks now (this all happened a copule months ago) and I check it every now and then but been through tons of rain etc and no issues-just make sure you use plenty of 3m tape and hold it on there for 3 or 4 minutes while you press hard the first time. It is stuck on there good and no bolts.

The tow hook thing looks ridiculous, so off center and noticable as it sticks out. This makes it flush to the car and nothing sticks out

Here is the best solution for front plate mount. It's low profile and easy to remove. The holes are on the under side, so they are not noticeable at all.

Actually the statute in Texas is: you must have a front facing plate. I have mine handy to put in the front windshield in certain situations.

my camaro that i had before my 530i did not have a plate in dallas for 5 years and no one ever said anything. i don't think the city of dallas really cares much (if you are curious).

i don't mind the license plate look on the bmw, although in general i hate anything on the actual body of cars that isn't stock (wheels don't count). my dealership put a stupid texas flag emblem on the back of my car and it was very quick to come off. if i didn't have to have a front license plate and/or if it wasn't already on my car, it would stay off. but since it's there and since texas requires it (even though i don't think dallas cares), it stays on.
