My car's all black - rims, tint, everything. So, of course, hate the look of a white cali plate on the front.
Got a fix it ticket a few months back - had to put the front plate on...
yesterday - got pulled over for my window tint (front windows) - another frikin fix it ticket...
My girl's identity is being taken away
I'm moving back to AZ...

When I got my 3 tickets at once(almost got 6) because the cop was a ass. Out of all the stupid extra violations he was gonna charge me with he did not bring up anything about the front plate. I've never been to Cali, but I figure that all the nice cars out there, alot of them don't have front plates, and it would be hard to enforce using them.

In Wisconsin its rare for them to pull you over mid day for no front license plate. But at night they do it all the time (hoping to lead to something bigger, ie: DUI/OWI). Same with window tint.
I say put it on.
I say put it on.

I'm approaching the 90 day mark after purchasing my 535i, and I'm considering putting the state issued plates on the car, which arrived in the mail, as "required" by law.
Here are my questions....
1. What is the penalty / odds of getting caught for not putting a front plate on the car in California? It looks sooo much better without the front plate or bracket.
2. What is the penalty / odds of getting caught for not putting any of the plates on at all? I know at a glance it will look like a new car awaiting the plates at a glance, but if I get pulled over, what happens?
Do any of my fellow Cali brothers have any experience with this?

Actually its just a $10.00 penalty if you put the plate on and get it signed off by a peace officer (sheriff, cop, etc.)
The odds of getting caught depends on where you drive. I had no front plate on my 98 explorer for 10 years and never got a ticket untill I came across a DUI checkpoint.
As far as my experience... I had a sheriff buddy sign off the ticket. You can put on the plate.. get the ticket signed off and take the plate back off.
AS far as not putting any plates on at all... This is NOT a good idea. If you get pulled over and the cop sees that you've had an active registration for many months he/she will question your intentions and it will give probable cause to search your car even further. This is on top of the fix it ticket you WILL get for not having any plates.

If you have to mount the plate just for the fix-it ticket sign-off, without drilling holes into your bumper, just use some 3m double sided tape. No holes, no fuss, and comes easy after you get the ticket signed off...
