Front Left Parking Lamp Malfunction, no power to headlight wire harness

Lamp for the angel eye seems fine. There are white and brown wires going to the lamp and I have them traced to three wires on the main headlight wire harness plug. I am not getting any voltage from the two hots at the harness plug. Sounds like others have had this problem so I am wondering if anyone has figured out a solution. I'm thinking of trying to jumper from the other headlight or from another hot wire in the same harness but I'm not sure if that would cause more error codes to be thrown.

Have you looked in the lamp first to see if you have bares wires touching each other and secondly if the lamp is actually blown.

Yes, I inspected the lamp and bought a new one and tried that and nothing. Then I started checking voltages and found I didn't have any power to the lamp.

Did you check inside the headlight for wires touching

Yes, I took the headlight out and looked at the wires and didn't see anything obvious. I used a multimeter and found continuity from the brown wires on the lamp to two wires in the main headlight wire harness. Continuity from the white wire on the lamp was found to one wire in the main headlight wire harness. I have also thought about removing the other headlight and checking the voltages on the main headlight wire harness there but I wasn't feeling up to it as the headlights are kind of a pain to remove/reinstall.

Take you second headlight assembly out and plug it into the to the wireing harness on the side you are having problems. If it works, then plug the light assembly you are having problems with into the other side and confirm headlight assembly still has a problem with the parking light. If the known to be good light doesn't work and the light assembly you are having problems with works, when you plugged it into the other side, you have a problem with your light module.

The LM, light module is located under the dash, centered under the steering wheel. You didn't mention what year or model e60 you have. There are two versions of LMs, LM1 covered 04-05 I believe and LM2 06 on. Although LM2 can be retrofitted to the 04-05 cars. Programming is required if a LM module is changed out.

If the headlight assembly in fact has a wireing insulation failure, then chances are a short occurred and the counter in the LM shut down power to that circuit to protect the wireing harness. LM counters can be cleared when the wireing in the headlight module is corrected.
