Front Bushings worn out

My Ride: 550i Manual Sport
Model Year: 2007
Engine: 4.8 L N62 V8
So i got a call from my nearest stealership telling me that the front bushings are worn out on my 07 550i. They quoted my $600 for the job. Is that a fair price? Is it require immediate replacement? Is it something i can do myself?

if you have the time and don't mind dirty, messy, tedious grunt work you can definitely do this yourself. it's not hard, but not fun either. i'm in the process of doing mine today.

Is the $600 quote including labor? I just had the same job done about 2 weeks ago and paid around $800 for the whole job at a good Indy shop. So, that $600 quote is either very reasonable or I got completely ripped off...

+1, a good price. Note whether the quote includes new arms or just replacing the bushings. Makes a significant price difference.

I definitely got new arms as well... the mechanic even came out to show me the new arms, lol... the new ones they installed are aluminum, if I remember correctly, and so they are much lighter yet stronger according to him.

The price from the stealership was arms and bushing and labor. But i just recently got a better quote from an independent BMW repair shop. $420 for parts and labor. Looks like this is the winner.

My Ride: 2004 BMW E60 530i, upgrades: Magnaflow exhaust, Mtec angel eyes and low beam head lights, Just purchased 172 style wheels, looking around for the best tires on Tire Rack now. R1 concepts rotors drilled/slotted. Saving for the M-style kit from Trinity Auto.
I like that number too. I need to find a place down my way for that number

ps - when you buy a replacement arm it comes with bushings already in place.

Yup, original arms+bushings come for $380-$450 (for the front, varies by E60 models). Bushings just by themselves are around $100. Do the math. 2-3 hours of labor. Interestingly, I don't think the cost of labor should vary that much between just replacing the bushings only and replacing the arms.
To replace the bushings only, you need to take the old arm out and replace the bushings. If anything, it should be cheaper to replace arms completely.
Summary: $600 for just bushings from the stealer is a ripoff. Ask them how much to replace arms+bushings and get it done for a good price $700-$800. If you are going the Indy way, buy the parts yourself and make them do the labor !!!
