Why? Do you like throwing your money away? Oils now last significantly longer than your Father's oil! I routinely tested oil change intervals in our Honda Pilot by sending samples in for analysis. Conventional oil was still good at 7500 miles, so what does that say about the synthetic in your BMW? I finally stopped sending in samples when I got to 7500 miles which was Honda's recommended interval.

Something to do. I like working on cars. I don't play golf or have any other "expensive" hobbies from a cost or time perspective. I simply like working on my cars. My little kids help. They love it too. Yesterday (Saturday) I took them to the BMW dealer to check out the inventory and walk through the service area to see what they were working on.

I'm extremely curious at the way BMW dealers do things. I have 32K on my e60 now. I just took my car in for a non schedules oil change at 7500 miles and my idrive says I have 8 k left for the oil change, I have no problem with that, I like to split it in half, I'll pay for 1 and they can pay for 1. The non dealer shop I go too works on Porches and BMW and Audi's. He did the oil change and check the micro filters, he called me up and told me to take the car back to the dealer because they are absolutely filthy. He also tells me the the rear brakes are finished , gone, kaput.

When I check the idrive it tells me there is 44k left on the micro filters........hhhmmmmm, it also tells me there is 8k left on the rear brakes.........another hhhmmm. Is the sensors for the filters and brakes that inaccurrate. Do the dealers purposely reset the idrive for longer intervals to avoid doing the work........I wonder???? I still have 16k left on my warranty or about a year and a half.

I do trust the non dealer shop I go. He told me to take it back for them to do the work under the warranty. It really is annoying as hell with the dealers.

Mine called for a change at about 21000. It currently reminds me that I am 1100 mile late on service.

Ya I'm going to go back to the dealer on monday and make them explain to me what the heck happened... Otherwise I'm calling BMW N/A. I'm going to confirm again with them what the heck they did first and why they reset it... and WHEN the filters are suppose to be changed and if they even mention the word 30K miles thats done for. They owe me 2 new filters.

I have approx 17k on my car and never changed the a/c microfilter.

Again I do not use the ac a lot. I just open all the windows and at nighttime, when its cold, i leave the heater on with windows down and with heated seats and heated steering wheel.

The Brake sensors are pretty accurate, unless they tell you that you need to replace your brake pads when you know you've just replaced them. Mine did tht b'cos the dealers changed it and they didn't do a good job on the placement of the sensor wire and it got rubbed by the tires and short circuited. I don't think the normal brake pads wear is covered in the warranty.

About 1000 kms ago (625 miles), my Idrive advised me it was time to change the microfilter. I was enroute to Chicago, so figured I'd call when I returned to Toronto. Each start up was accompanied by the exclamation mark that service was past due. This morning, I fired up and did not get the 'past due' notice. I checked under 'service' and found I now have 2300 kms to go until the next microfilter service. It appears the car has re-set itself. I'm at 37,000 km on the odo (23,000 miles). Strange, indeed...

Ya you know what... mine did the same thing before I took it in.. it showed 800miles to needing service and then after I made the appointment it shot back up to 1200miles and then started its countdown from there again.
