On average How many miles are you replacing your Air Conditioner Micro filter? I know it depends on how dirty it gets and how often you use it and all that... but approximetly how many miles are people replacing them? Ok so mine counted down to enough to where it told me I need to go get it replaced about 1.5 months ago so I took it in and they did a "Microfilter Service" as it says on the Invoice... Free of course, under maintenance...
http://forums.e60.net/uploads/monthl...3282_thumb.jpg So today I was messing around spraying some AC disinfectant into the air ducts cuz it smells when I first turn on the AC and when I took apart the micro filter housing I noticed that the micro filters have not been replaced! They were the old ones. I know cuz I took them out a few months back to knock some dust out of them and I made the filter all fuzzy... So I called the dealer asking why did they say they did a microfilter service and reset my iDrive but did not change the filters? They pulled up some records and said that my iDrive was wrong... the countdown for microfilter replacement should be around 30K miles and my car only had about 15K miles so they "re-calibrated" the count down... So my question is whats the real answer on that? Did my dealer just give me some BS that the microfilter count down was incorrectly calibrated or do micro filters really do get changed out at about 30K miles and not 15K miles? |
So why would they put "microfilter service" on the invoice instead of "reset IDrive" or something like that? It makes me wonder if they could bill BMW more for the microfilter service versus resetting the IDrive.

I dunno the first thing that came to mind was that... customers never check that stuff so they can just reset it and get away with not really replacing the filter... I would think it would actually list part numbers for the microfilter if they actually replaced it... I just want to verify their story. To see if it is true that micro filters usually get replaced at approx 30K miles... and that it was truly a iDrive error. |
I have real issue with this based on personal experience. I would be contacting BMW US at the highest level. I state this based on my first car out of college was a VW that had the 10 year 100K mile coverage. At 60K my timing belt ripped to shreds and destroyed the engine. I had to provide ever document of maintenance to VW and they voided my warrantee for lack of proof of two oil changes. Even though I had a perfect track record of taking care of the car. They stuck me with a $8000 bill for a rebuilt engine. :fcuk:
If the BMW dealer wants to be ethically corrupt BMW corporate should know. |
mine was replaced at about 24,000 miles since it came up on the idrive. for sure it was changed because i watched the technician do it, then resetted the idrive when finished.

I changed mine myself at 8000 miles. They were pretty dirty, although the iDrive said I had 20000 miles left on them and they were probably ok. Pittsburgh was recently rated as having the worst air quality of any big city in the US. Besides, I love taking things apart and it simply gave me an excuse to fix something. I also change my oil every 3,000 miles myself.

If the BMW dealer wants to be ethically corrupt BMW corporate should know. Exactly... I would not be a happy camper if it was suppose to be changed but they didnt change it just to save a buck or two. Ok so from what it sounds like pa550 and NeRwEEzy's iDrive shows it's suppose to be changed at around 28,000 and 24,000 miles... so them quoting me 30,000 inst that far off... mine told me to get them replaced at like 14K miles... so could the dealer really was telling the truth? |

Ok I just went out and checked... the iDrive shows the next microfilter change is at 31,000 miles from now. Now I'm upset!! SO they basically reset my microfilter for a NEW one but they didnt repalce it and gave me a BS story.
