Fold-downseats - should I get them?
#1
I hardly use the fold-down seats in the 3er, and can?t recall using the fold-down seats in my previous 5er, and have always suspected they might account for a few rattles.
So I am not planning to get them.
Does anyone object?

like you said, for some, they are useful, others, they are a waste. I have thm in my e90, but dont in the E60. My e60 is rock solid, while the e90 a bit more loose and noisy (esp rear parcel shelf area). Of course there could be a number of reasons why this is, but I like the vault like ride of the e60. Sounds like you dont need them.

I like having them. I had them on my E39 and my E60. It's good for those times when you go shopping with the wife and wonder if that picture frame or mirror will fit in your car. You then realize you have fold down rear seats and you are stoked that you don't have to drive back home, swap the car for the SUV and go back to the store.
So my answer is, yes, I like having them.

I had them for 3 years on my 545 and ordered them on my new 08 550. They never rattled, felt loose, etc. I think they add the perfect functionality to the car. I dont think you are giving anything up by getting them

Anything that is to big to fit in the trunk(boot), I use my SUV to transport. Having the fold down seats in the rear can give you squeaks and I can't stand squeaks in a car. With the bolted on seats, it is rock solid and quiet.
My vote, no fold down seats.

No rattles in any of BMW's with f-d seats (since the 316i Compact '95).
Have had use of them when going skiing with my girlfriend,
and when taking mats to the laundry

I've had four 5ers with fold-down rear seats and never had any rattling issues with them.
I'm someone who uses the fold-down seat option very often. Obviously, YMMV but for me, the absence of this option is a deal-breaker...

+1 When you need them, you need them, even if it's only once or twice a year.
