I'm stuck on the fold down rear seat option.

I know it might come in handy some time, but not sure how often.

On the negative, I've heard that the seats are less padded and therefore not as comfortable. I've also seen complaints about noises from the rear seats with this option.

Any thoughts, comments for or against this option?

TIA-

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.

I like the fold down seats and so far I have heard no noises and no complaints from friends who have ridden in the back.
Plus, it was given to me as a free option.

I always had wagons before, that's why I chose them. So far I haven't used them...

I have it and i think it's one of the best options you can put in your BMW.

No noise from the seats and the middle place in the rear has a nicer design special the cup holder which i don't like in the regular seat.

About the comfort it's superb. This seats are the same that are in the E61(Touring).
Just fine and you can put what ever you want in the car. The regular model isn't so good in fitting long objects, ski or a bicicle, .....

Here is a photo.

Don't think twice.

I remember the E39 fold downs were less padded but I haven't seen or heard anything about that on the E60.

Either way, I've had fold downs on two E39's and my E60. Nobody has ever said there wasn't enough padding and I've never had any squeaks, rattles, etc. in any of the cars.

I use the fold downs all the time. Couldn't live without them.

Thanks so much for the responses and pics.

So far, seems like a worthy choice.

The split/fold rear seats also come with a 12V power supply in the boot/trunk - this is the main reason I regret not getting this option.

I couldn't have the car without them. I use them quite often when I put for sale signs in my car. No squeaks or rattles. It's a must have option for me.
