I suspect the glass portion of the bulb may have had a defect causing it to burst; or even oil from your finger can cause bulb to heat unevenly and fracture. If ever in doubt before installing a halogen caplet you can carefully wipe the surface with an alcohol wipe and ensure it is clean and dry.
To finish picking up the extra glass in the fog lamp use a piece of small diameter rubber hose connected to the smallest hose of a shop-vac. Tape it up to get good suction and move it all around the inside of the lamp housing thru where the bulb socket is.

Go with the PIAAs. Good value and much whiter than the stock lights. Be careful on the wattage [H7/55W]. Also - carefully install. I always wear white cloth gloves when I do bulbwork. No issues for two years...

Odd, I just had this same issue happen to me with my Hoen Xenonmatch fog on the passenger side. I came to this thread hoping there was a way to pull out the foglight capsule. I guess I'll try the vacuum method sometime when it warms up. They sent me a new pair as well, good customer service.

get the MTEC Cosmos Blue.. that's what i had before my Fog-HIDs.. you'll have to take the fogs out and bake them.. then take the front lens off. other option is replacing the whole housing.
