I thought you can fix a run flat as long as the damage is on the thread?
You are right, but many tire shops will not repair them because they don't know if the so-called 50/50 rule has been applied--no more than 50 mph and 50 miles. They are afraid to repair them because of potential liability.

Constantly gives false warnings, especially on days when the temperature changes dramatically (hot to cold or vice versa). Unfortunately the dozens of false warnings were followed by one real warning that I took for a false alarm until I realized I really had a flat.

Overall impression of the system is that it...sux.

Interesting... A temperature change should affect pressure in all tires equally and it shouldn't cause the FTM to say anything. I've had pretty good luck with the system, every time it has given me an indication I've had one tire 2-3 lbs off.

Driving to work this morning, I heard the chime from the display monitor telling me I had a flat tire. Since I have run flats, I proceeded until I found a gas station where I was able to inpect my tires. I walked around my car, and each tire was fully inflated. Has anyone experienced a problem with their computer displaying the "flat tire" symbol, or any other symbol when nothing was wrong. Ocassionaly, the "tighten gas cap" icon also appears for no apparent reason.

Thanks.

I had "Flat Tire" warnings all the time with my soft and non RF winter tires before I got the 19.2 CIP.

After that I only had one false warning when the rear wheel did spin on a tram line.

same here -- if there are large cracks/tram lines in the road -- it can cause the flat tire detector to go off.

Identical situation happened to me just yesterday. Visual inspection looked fine and when I checked with my trusty tire guage the tires were all within 2 lbs of each other; the lowest was 30#, the highest 32#.

So I went to my dealer; JMK Motors in Springfield NJ. The service advisor explained that the monitor system will notice the 2# difference and report it as a flat. He put proper air in all four tires and reset it and I was on my way.

Great job as usual JMK.
Aren't they the greatest dealer around, they always come through for you.
cheers

Like many people here, i think the FTM is quite accurate. It's gone off 3 times, and each time i had low pressure in one or more tyres, and only by 2 or 3 psi.
Having watched the guys at the tyre place fit my winter tyres to spare rims, i think the reason for them not wanting to repair them (as well as the indemnity issue) is that they're b***ards to get on and off - a high risk of damaging the rim (and them paying for it) for very little return. They make much more on a new tyre, especially when you see how much they cost
