ok so I got my first flat today, no idea how I might add .. simple 55mph driving on the highway and all of a sudden I-drive is telling me there's a flat, upon inspection of the wheels/tires I can see any difference and there is a verrrrry slight weirder feeling in the sterring wheel on certain terrain, But I cant pinpoint which wheel it is!

upon searching/reading some of the run-flat posts I am wondering if this is in fact a defect of some sort I should bring to dealers attention (Car only has 5k miles)

You may be having a false alarm. Reset your flat-tire monitor, and see what happens. There is no way to tell which tire is flat except via physical inspection or by using a pressure gauge.

I'm betting on false alarm. The same thing happened tp me driving back from the mountains. I think it had something to do with the altitude/pressure. The worse part was thinking I had a flat and driving below 50 MPH for an hour or so until we reached the next town. Then bought a tire pressure gauge and realized all tires were fine. Next day, brought it to the dealer and they reset all tires pressure and reset the FTM in iDrive. No problems since...

I would check it with a tire guage... you cant tell by eye or really by feel with run flats... the monitor goes off if air presure is lowerd by ~3psi on any one wheel.

I thought it measured changes in rotational speed of the wheel?

Anyway - false alarms seem common so reste by idrive is the best bet then off to the filling station to check the pressure.

Obviously if you've lost any air or if it keeps going off your going to have to go to the tyre fitters to have em all checked.

I had a slow puncture recently in my rear tyre, which was completely invisible to me. I only found it cause the sensor was activating, making me check the pressure often and I realised one wheel was dropping very very slowy.

Good luck and if it is a puncture I hope it's repairable.

Always carry a tire gauge and you won't have to speculate.

Yes it is... but from experience it seems that rotational speed of the wheel doesnt change enough to activate the FTM until theres about 3psi difference. thats what i was trying to say...

Aha - understood - to be honest I just wanted to check that what I had been told was right

I would suggest a good digital tire gauge. Using one is the only way to know for sure.
