Default flappy paddle boc to 535d

Hi all and a congratulations on such a fab web site & forum.

I have a 2005, 535d E61 auto M sport. Car is doing great since I've owned it over the last 12 months.

Many changes, DPF removal, EGR removal, Inlet butterfly blanked off, K&N filter, Magnaflow SS exhaust, showing 455BHP & 650ft lb torque.

Now my question. Ive just bought on ebay a M5 flappy paddle steering wheel without airbag. Im confident my old airbag will fit. But how do I get the flappy paddles to operate the sports gear box.

Being a M-sport I have manual selection form the gear lever, but this means removing a hand off the steering wheel, a real pain if I'm shaving/texting, facebooking at the same time lol. Has anyone done this before. I wont be fitting it my local BMW garage in Ireland is but they admit they've no idea how to do it,

Hi Craíg

What prod. date do your car have ? ( not first reg, date ! ) , if it is prod. after 09/2005 it should be a simple "plug & play" , plus some coding by BMW ( or by someone with INPA software , and know how to use it ) , if your car/steeringwheel have a electronic AirBag box/modul inside in the steeringwheel ( sitting downwards ), the car is prod. before 09/2005 !

If the car is prod. before , it's a littel more complicated , steeringwheel múst be alterede , slipring under steeringwheel must be altered/changed , and new wireharness in the steeringwheel must be made + 2 ekstra wires from under the steeringwheel down to the gearlever colum , and connected there , with other words , not so simple

NB:See my garage , here it is in a 525iA from 12/2003, and it Works

Regards
BenAnd
