I was just browsing RealOWM.com and found this:

FLAP CONTROL TRIM http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=51&fg=15

Anyone know what it actually does? Is it only installed on cars in cold climates?

Just curious.

Maybe someone with an 09 could tell us. Would probably help more with a diesel in a cold climate I'd guess.

I guess I should really be working harder today!

I have it on mine.
It's purpose is to let the engine warm up faster (closed), reducing emissions - and
direct airflow to the lower parts of the engine when warm.

I believe it's standard on Euro-spec cars.

So its not on older US spec cars because emissions requirements were more lax?

Are they on newer US spec cars?

Yes, I believe this is correct based upon what I've read here on the forum.. Haven't been to Europe in a few years..
