Steering angle sensor DIY fix - it worked - BMW M5 Forum and M6 Forums

Did this over the weekend and it worked!!! Very pleased and pretty simple. Recommend being patient as you remove parts. In removing grime on the optical disk, I used a terry cloth with distilled water wiping the disk gently as the grime slowly dissolves. Takes some time.

Couple of other notes. If you plan to re wrap the steering wheel or replace a noisy stalk button, this is the time to do it. The steering nut is very tight and recommend a helper. I didn't but help would have been nice. Get a set of mini hex screw drivers at Sears or similar store. You'll need a 6 and 8 hex for the optical disc unit. Be careful don't lose those little screws.

On day 5 and no warning signs.
