Go visit your local WalMart and pick up two 5 quart jugs of either Castro European Formula 0w40 or Castrol 5w40. Both Castrol Oil products are rated BMW LL01 (BMW longlife 01). This is the rating you are looking for on your n54 engine. Expect to pay $23-25 per 5 quart jug. Great price for either of these full synthetic oils. For a filter, go to fcpeuro.com and pick up several Mann oil filters.

My only concern is being in Atlanta, it gets almost to freezing temperatures at night, and will for sure have below freezing in the coming months. It will get upwards of 60 degrees F. on a good day but usually the average temp. in winter months is in the 50s

I found my car runs best with:
1. Motul xcess 8100 5w40
2. Castrol edge 5w40
3. Castrol edge 0w40
I am currently running rotella t6 5w40 as I was in a pinch for oil and it was the only thing in stock during the wee hours of the night. Going to run it and do an oil analysis after 1000 miles. Then back to motul.
I try to stick with anything that is bmw LL-01 certified. And prefer the heavier 5w40 vs a 5w30.
