My Ride: 535xi Alpine White Natural Brown PP/CWP/SP/Comfort Access/Navi/HUD/Logic7/PDC/SAT/IPOD-USB/RearSeat Warmers/Step/Anthracite Headliner
Just got my '08 535xi back from the Dealer after 4 days in the shop. I took it in for really stiff steering wheel at slow speeds and hard cornering like pulling in or out of garage and in a parking spot. It is fixed - diagnosis was a failed steering wheel pump. I only have 6600 miles on the car - has anybody else had an issue? seems really low mileage for such a problem but then any electrical component is prone to premature failure. I had them move my HUD image a little up also while they had the car in the shop. Just glad to have it back.

Glad it's fixed! I hate hearing about problems like that in new BMW's. I'm used to driving Toyotas and one Lexus, which have been extremely reliable, but not much fun. I am looking forward to getting my 535xi, but I have to admit that I am worried about having electrical problems with it...

Once these cars are out of warranty, just expect them to be a money pit. But I keep buying them because I am an absolute BMW junkie. I love everything about them, performance, handling, styling and I only get 5 series, (had a 3 series once but it wasn't me) I am so devoted that I am actually going to Germany this year to Munich to see the BMW museum and factory. Everyone that knows me knows that I am a BMW junkie and they know that they would never see me in any other car again.
So my point is that just don't expect reliability to be on par with a Lexus or Toyota, even far from it as the car ages. But in terms of performance, handling and style, the BMW will win your loyalty and it may even get you laid. Research has even shown that BMW drivers get laid more often than any other driver in the world. Good luck.
