you had a Lexus?

Nope - never had a Lexus I was referring to my other cars that only had tracting control (GT500 for instance) and it's a one touch disable.

Most Lexii, you can't fully disable the stability control. I believe the IS-F is the first but IIRC it will still come back on if you over do it.

I wasn't aware that the E46 was a 3 level system (full on, DTC mode, full off). I was told the '03 E60 platform was the first.

BTW, not to be picky, but one quick push of the button enables "DTC" mode, not DTS, thats a Caddy model.

Sorry Richard, I figured I had the wrong initials - but was too lazy to look it up in the OM

You qualify based on street racing alone. Seriously, how old are you?

I can't believe I just figured this out I had thought the way to completely disable the DTS and DSC (or whatever the proper acronyms are) was to push the DTS button once, then wait one second, and push it a second time...well yesterday a new Lexus IS 350 and I raced (he revved me then punched it and since we were on a deserted street with no one around I reacted to his challenge) and while I was staying with him, I shifted to 2nd, the tire chirped and the engine lost power...I'm like WTF that allowed him to pull 1/2 car length on me and then we stopped racing...I went home and read the OM and figured out that I had actually re-enabled the system with the 2nd press of the button and to completely disable everything I needed to push AND HOLD the DTS button a 2nd time...tried it and it works great now.

Please send me the BMW DUNCE CAP and it's my turn to sit in the corner

By the way, probably just a mental thing - but it does feel more "spirited" driving hard with the DTS system completly disabled! The 1st to 2nd shift will squeel'em pretty good as will a good launch from a standstill...not posi-trac like my GT500 I realize - but fun nonetheless in a 4 door sedan

Next up short-shift linkage and perhaps a trip to the dealer for the DINAN s/w upgrade....I've got to stop modding everything I own...I promised myself I wouldn't touch the 535 - but I just can't help it .....anybody make a turbo kit for a Snapper rear drive lawnmower

Oooooooooh!
I just gave this a shot on my 535xi. From something I read here I was sure I couldn't fully disable DSC and DTC on the X model. But I gave it a shot and got the big hazard warning on my dash, my heads up and on my screen. Dropped it into Sport and was about to see if I could break the wheels loose when I remembered that my wife and 2 kids were in the car....

Gene, I tried to spin all 4 on my 530xi with the DTC and DSC off, but to no avail. I didn't exactly rev it to 5000 RPM and drop it from Neutral into Drive, but I floored it from a full stop, in a downhill position...and no spin. Maybe your extra 45 HP will do the trick! I have never heard my tires chirp once. Let me know if you can get all 4 smokin'! I'd like to see pics or a video of that!

Ever shift to Neutral and back to Drive on the highway? That doesn't require any brake application.

That's probably a good thing...I can't imagine a neutral slam at 4k RPM's would be a good thing for the powertrain. Although, you should be able to do it coming from neutral not park into drive - but please don't do it from 4K - you may damage your drivetrain.
