I can't believe I just figured this out I had thought the way to completely disable the DTS and DSC (or whatever the proper acronyms are) was to push the DTS button once, then wait one second, and push it a second time...well yesterday a new Lexus IS 350 and I raced (he revved me then punched it and since we were on a deserted street with no one around I reacted to his challenge) and while I was staying with him, I shifted to 2nd, the tire chirped and the engine lost power...I'm like WTF that allowed him to pull 1/2 car length on me and then we stopped racing...I went home and read the OM and figured out that I had actually re-enabled the system with the 2nd press of the button and to completely disable everything I needed to push AND HOLD the DTS button a 2nd time...tried it and it works great now.
Please send me the BMW DUNCE CAP and it's my turn to sit in the corner
By the way, probably just a mental thing - but it does feel more "spirited" driving hard with the DTS system completly disabled! The 1st to 2nd shift will squeel'em pretty good as will a good launch from a standstill...not posi-trac like my GT500 I realize - but fun nonetheless in a 4 door sedan
Next up short-shift linkage and perhaps a trip to the dealer for the DINAN s/w upgrade....I've got to stop modding everything I own...I promised myself I wouldn't touch the 535 - but I just can't help it .....anybody make a turbo kit for a Snapper rear drive lawnmower

re: disabling dsc and dts.
just curious if this is your first bmw or you have had preivous models? Reason im asking is that even the previous models of 5 had the same way of disabling traction controls... even wiht the e90 and e46.
Also lot of other manuf use same trigger for disabling the traction i.e audi/vw/merc/porsche.

race responsibly... take it to the tracks.. But I gotta tell ya, an IS350 is a pretty quick car, but nothing a 5 can't handle.

Press and hold is the way to go. You will see your dashboard light come on to confirm. My e46 is the same way.
Disabled the other day in e60, and did a crazy burnout leaving the parking lot of my office. One never knows the true power that can be unleashed with simply the push of a button...

Most Lexii, you can't fully disable the stability control. I believe the IS-F is the first but IIRC it will still come back on if you over do it.
I wasn't aware that the E46 was a 3 level system (full on, DTC mode, full off). I was told the '03 E60 platform was the first.
BTW, not to be picky, but one quick push of the button enables "DTC" mode, not DTS, thats a Caddy model.
