When I got off the freeway, I pulled over and turned the car off for about a minute and restarted it. the warring disappeared and nothing in the idrive system msgs either. This was the first time I saw this and still I checked and all seems normal. So I continued driving and so far this has not come back. Strange

Has anybody experienced this. Should I be worried? this this was the only time I saw this, you think I should call bring this to the dealer and have them checked out. All seems normal now. May I should wait and see if this comes back and then have the dealer look at it. Your thoughts. The car is still under warranty.
thanks

Common problem. Actually there is an SIB and recall out over this. Contact ur local dealer and they will have you all fixed up in no time.

Does anybody have any link to this SIB as that would help to get this fix done at the dealer.

I just got this error while my friend sat down in the passenger seat. I was trying to show off my car....
What a first impression!
So this IS covered by BMW recall? <06 550 Sport/Premium/Cold>

Print the following and show the pic on the Idrive. I just received a recall letter for this issue.
BMW will tell "can't replicate" the problem because the warning went away when I complained last time.
Now I've the got the pic, they will perform this .
Make: BMW Model: 5 SERIES
Model Year: 2005
Manufacturer: BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC Mfr's Report Date: JUL 18, 2008
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 08V384000
EA08001
NHTSA Action Number: EA08001
Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Potential Number of Units Affected: 200000
Summary:
BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM, WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL BE ILLUMINATED.
Consequence:
IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REWORK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT SO THAT EXTERNAL FORCE APPLICATION TO THE SEAT DOES NOT CAUSE A CRACK TO THE MAT. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING LATE SEPTEMBER 2008. BMW WILL ALSO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES TO 10 YEARS FROM FIRST REGISTRATION WITHOUT ANY MILEAGE LIMIT. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417.
Notes:
BMW IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM FIRST REGISTRATION WITHOUT ANY MILEAGE LIMIT TO THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: MY 2006 6-SERIES, 3-SERIES (STANDARD SEAT), MY 2004-2005 Z4, MY 2004-2006 7-SERIES, MY 2006 X5, AND MY 2004-2006 5-SERIES (COMFORT SEAT). UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM, THE OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT IN A VEHICLE THAT EXPERIENCES THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE WILL BE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

I have the same on mine right now and I have an appointment for next Monday; this can be easily fixed. However, no need to stress over the warning, once it comes up it stores in memory when the BMW tech plugs your car in it will show the warnings populated. On the other hand, it does not hurt if you have your own proof! Make sure to call in and schedule an appointment.

OK I took my car in yesterday for service under warranty. I had this warning light once some time ago and told the SA about it and the recall. He was aware of the recall. Picked up the car today. They said, I had some batery cable issue, and my car is not under recall, fixed the faulty cable, cleared the warraning stored in thr system. And thats it. I don't know it good or bad news.
