So I was on a three hour drive to Boston couple weeks back...It was a great drive up...The car handled well in the wet conditions..As I left Boston at 9 PM... I recieve a flat tired warning..So get out of the highway to the closest exit...i pull over and check all four tires and they are all inflated and seem to be fine...I hit the SOS button to see what BMW says...So they transfer...The BMW Spokesperson says, " For Roadside Assistance press 2 now", Only problem is..How the F*%$ am i going to hit a number when im connected through a button...So I wait through the whole automated system to pass and send me to a operator...I tell her my situation on how all four tires are ok yet it is telling me I have a flat tire. She goes to inform me that they will not send someone out until i figure out what tire is flat. So basically they would not even send someone out to have my tires checked. So I ended up calling back a second time BS-ing telling them one of my back tires was flat. Finally they send someone out and I tell him my situation. He goes on to check the tires and tells me they are fine. He mention this has happend before and his tires seemed to be fine as well. I came the the conclusion one of the tires air pressure might have dropped..the tires seem to be fine...I called to set up an appointment with service...But the appointment isnt till next week...Any ideas guys?

 

In my old '04 525iA with winter tires I got the tire warning activated all the time.
Changed the CIP and the problem was gone.

But if you want to play with the BMW Assist for no reason, do so, and have fun!

 

Buy a digital tyre pressure guage - cost is peanuts and a quick check would have confirmed all OK in seconds.
The tyre check system is useful, but not immune to error.
(And presumably due to the dreaded lawyer issue, they need to err on the side of caution and if in doubt warn.)

 

Yep, or check your tires pressure every 2 times you fill at the gas station.

 

How does one check for flat tires without a pressure gauge? It just amazes me Get a gauge NOW. Check your pressure NOW. You will probably find one of two things, either one is just slightly low (6-10 psi) or one is really low. In the case of slightly low this may be nothing more than normal leakage. Inflate all tires to proper pressures (using your nice new gauge) an reset FTM. Then as others have stated, do a scheduled check at no less than once a month. You'll know more about your car, have longer tire life, and maybe save a life, even your own

 

You didn't mention if the service guy checked with a gauge; critical if you didn't have one. You could still be "flat" if you have those oddly named-runflats. Otherwise, things probably are OK.

I got a flat tire warning two days ago. But I realized that I did not reset the FTM in I drive after I adjusted my tire preassure the day before. Odd though that the warning did not indicate the day I adjusted the tire though. It waited until the next day.

 

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I panicked. I pulled over and checked my tires and they were fine. I called BMW ande they said that I have a flat tire but I won't be able to tell since the tires are runflat. They told me that I need to stay under 50 mph and get the tire replaced soon. I called a friend with a 525 and he told me not to worry. He had my my tire pressure to make sure that it is fine then reset the FTM. I did that and everything was ok

 

That happened to me a few days ago too and after I checked all four tires which were fine I reset the flat tire monitor and all is well. I too carry a gauge with me just in case.

 

I had loads of these false warnings, to the point that I began to ignore them, them of course I get a real puncture !
A software upgrade to 19.00 cured the problem.
