I think the subtle changes are normal -- just like the ones they did on the E39. When people hear "face-lift" I think they think about the 7-series changes that were more than just the normal "freshening" or updating of a car as it approaches the end of it's run. The seven was getting hammered by critics so they did more than just a small, subtle change.

Remember that the key to these changes is to keep it inexpensive to implement. The E39 changes were simply some mods to the head and tail lights, some changes to the trim around the bumpers and the doors, etc. All that encompasses is some minor changes in parts. (Remember the minor interior changes that we're already seeing from MY 2004, to 2005 with the additional wood, etc.)

What they did to the seven series recently was much more extensive (and expensive) but in my opinion, was needed for that car to be competitive with some of the alternative choices that buyers have. There were still too many people that thought the car, especially the rear end, was just ugly.

will this facelift come out in spring year of 2007 (2008 model) or on the 2007 model which is SOP march 2006?

That was one of the many reasons I opted for the MSposrt pack.
On the E39 I only recall seeing one MSports pack for the life of the model.

Hence possibly only my front and rear lights may need to change to keep up with the facelift.

Rear lights should be easy to do, but to replace front adaptive xenons may more expensive than it is worth...

I like the car better the way that it is now than with the facelift as shown in this thread. In any event it good that the facelift shown in these pics is minor.

Agree completely. The 5 design is/was pure, perhaps the purest expression of Bangle's new design language. I'm actually shocked BMW greenlighted it. I feel lucky to have a car that has what I consider to be an original design, unspoiled by marketing focus groups and media criticism.

it has got to be the most recognizable and respected car on the road in terms of looks (in the sub $100,000 range)

i really want to know when this facelift is going to be implemented becuase i just ordered a 530i fully loaded (msrp: 59,000+) and i really really do not want my car to be out of date so fast.. my dealer also mentioned that there will probably be some change to the engine in the 2007 model)

If these really are the sum total as far as the changes, -no one- who doesn't own one will know there's even a difference. Heck, some owners may not even notice.
