I was in the middle of the same dilema before my car got hit a couple of days ago! Now that it got hit, I'm thinking to just install the M-tech kit on mine and keep it til about a year into the F10 production and then trade up. But then again, I'm totally satisfied with my ride, except for the looks of the bumpers, so its easier for me. Plus, I agree with Yam5ter - I still love the way any old Bimmer looks almost as much as the e60 (though I must say, to me personally, the e60 is only bettered by two 4-door cars in the whole world - AMG CLS and Maser Quattroporte - both of which are significantly more $$$)

So everyones kinda torn....if it weren't for their technical snags, I may go with a new F10..... The numbers 555 are really beautiful if you ask me!
If you lease and you develop problems - does that not end up on you? I realize the car has a new vehicle warranty, etc - but keep in mind that BMWNA is not going to know about many of these issues till people start reporting them.. In the past, with the release of the new E60, BMW didn't acknowledge iDrive freezes/issues till much later in the game leaving those stuck with this problem in the midst of know-where. My worry is - you've got a new car, it's got a new problem - and everyone's left staring at each other...

On the other hand - a 550i lease for a year or two doesnt sound bad! Except there'll be a 555 next to me at a red light one day and I'll be thinking "WhY!!!!"

then the choice is really simple, get the ///M5 and no need to worry, there wont be an F10 version for quite some time

Thats not entirely true..at least for my case. I am driving an E60 but whenever I see a nicely modded E39, I never cease to be amazed at how beautiful its smooth lines are especially when its on an M5 kit and big wheels...

Ya for you and the small number of actual BMW 5 series enthusiasts like us... but your everyday person looking at it can mistaken it for a 2004 BMW 525

Lease a discounted 08-09 550 now while rates are reasonable and dealers will deal in this slow economy, wait for the second year of the F10 and by then the car will have been established without the bugs and dealers will work out better pricing. Early adopters always pay a higher price.

I have a feeling with the economy we may be in for some inflation and the cost of money will be higher than what it is now.

That was my plan- I leased a 550 with a money factor interest rate of 2.9% with a discount of 7,000.00 off sticker plus some additional cap reduction monies left over from the sale of my e39. Fall of 2011 I should be ready for my F10

I do miss the looks of my E39 sport, I said the same thing about loosing my E34 M5 and prior to that my e28M5....change is sometimes hard to do.

Now if money is no object and you have the object of desire in your eyes- go for the F10!

You have to admit -they are all beautiful cars.
