BMWs historic legacy of debuting vehicles with significant problems/recalls/failures in their first year versions are well known to all. To that end - the new 5er - although long awaited, raises concern in this regard. I will be in the market for a new vehicle around the same time the new 5 releases...
Would you take the dive and get the newest of the BMW lineup.......or go with time-trusted technology and stay with a 550i rather than a 555i...
I am truly torn by this and want to have a game plan in place before the new 5er releases! The last thing I need is a waivering mind and a great looking new car to boot!!!
Thoughts, comments are appreciated..............

The F10 is an exciting vehicle on our radar, but bear in mind BMW has had a problematic record with the first year of a model change.
Get a two year lease on a 550 and THEN go for it!

You dont want to be driving a 2003/4 car when the F10 is out. People will look and go thats old. they cant tell the difference between a 2010 and a 2004 E60.

Tough call. BMW is new to the turbo game and they are having some issues. My general rule has always been to skip the first production year. I admit, it can be difficult to do that, but I have not broken my own rule yet.
Then again.... someone has to deal with the bugs of the new models. Go for the F10.

Thats not entirely true..at least for my case. I am driving an E60 but whenever I see a nicely modded E39, I never cease to be amazed at how beautiful its smooth lines are especially when its on an M5 kit and big wheels...

I am always all go for their mid-cycle facelifts. Haha..same as when I had my E36 to E46 to current E60..all mid cycle facelifts. So I will keep to the E60 until maybe 2013/2014 (assuming the F10 starts early 2010) and the F10 gets a mid life facelift. All bugs should have been more or less sorted and styling in the exterior and interior would have been updated nicely then... My two cents opinion

Life is too short. Get the F10, just make sure that you buy from a dealership with a good loaner program. If you're able to afford an F10, why wait. It's car, it's a toy. It's even better if you lease, then who cares about the turbo packing up.

Don't forget that a new 2010 e60 550 will come with the new iDrive...a big change and improvement which should keep your e60 550 electronics the same as the new F10.
