The thing that's making me most sad is that I may have to go get rid of the car once it`s been repaired as I will no longer be able to afford to insure it

Ouch! Hope all works out for you. Did your airbags deploy? If so, do insurance companies total out the car for airbag deployment in the UK? Just curious is all. Sorry to hear about the accident.

aah..been through the same shit 2 months ago..f*cker entered the main road from a side parking..a total of 5 cars crashed and i was on the 4th number..asshole ran away untouched..i ended up paying $5000 for repairs

If this is really the case and you can get other car drivers to agree/testify that it happened and join in, you might not be liable for paying the damages. You might have to get a lawyer or someone involved. Fight it man - you have to. Don't loose the car to some stupid accident.
