16.2 didn't fix this and BMW states there is nothing mechanically wrong! SOB! If this continues to happen, I think a trade in is coming. This is driving me crazy!

Hmm.. if you don't use the trunk alot (or even if you do) I think you can lock it with the key and it'll never open unless the key is used again to unlock it. Atleast that'll stop it from opening -- now why it's doing that is another story.

Ruf,

It could be a bad module that is weak against electromagnetic interference. With enough RF noise, it could open the trunk. Find out what module opens the trunk, and see if your dealer will replace it. Show them the picture. If they replace it, and it still happens, then it may be something else, but if you are certain it is not your fob being hit, then it is most likely an interference thing. I have seen EMI activate ABS, turn on solenoids, etc, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Are there large towers or power lines near that area? Is it possible that someone is playing a joke on you at work? (I thought this may have happened to you at home as well, or that may have been someone else). Write down all of the scenarios and see if you can come up with a consistent story as to when this happens and all of the possibilities. That my help narrow down your investigation. Also, as Lomag mentioned, in the interim, you may just want to lock your trunk.

How often does this happen?

Does it only happen in one place, like at home or office?

I had this problem with my E39, only at office.

On a few occassions my windows and roof would be open.

Took keys out of my pocket at work and it stopped immediately.

Determined it was keys at office in my pocket. The way my key chain ring was arranged my car key fell other keys which folded back on trunk open button. Changed way my keys wes arranged on key chain and it stopped.

A few month later I got a new office chair and it started all over again. I sit wide and the car key would press against arm on side of chair.

If only at one location, say office, take keys out of you pocket when are at work, and see if it stops.

Aww man that sucks! It would piss me off!

Seriously why cant your dealer just change out the module that controls the trunk openning. Ask them to check the driver side footwell trunk release button. it might not be the remote problem that button could be at fault.

Turning the key and locking it wont stop the remote feature. I've tried...

Cool

That would be Version 20.0 "comfort access" for my mother in law when she gets in her rightful place - the trunk!
