Just picked her up today from the dealer, after having an oil change and a vehicle check. Is it me, or does £285 seem a little steep? I did get a free courtesy car out of it, a brand new 318i SE, but it was crap compared to the 5er.

Blimey, hat does seem expensive.

I had an oil and filter change for £138 all inc from my dealer - no service check though, and I've got a 530i!

Ouch! I would advise as soon as you are through the manufacturer warranty period, find a good indy. I take mine to A1 BMW in Stevenage. They know what they are up to, reset all service codes necessary, and are 1/2 the price of the main dealer just down the street. Although the loan cars aren't new or brilliant, I'd rather have the pound notes in my wallet!

I get charged $100 Canadian at my dealer for an oil change and I also get courtesy car and a free wash, I'm not sure what exactly the conversion rate is but that seems really high.

I had the oil/filter change on mine done for £174 that was on the condition I bought new pollen filters at the same time though so the total bill was £234. I always negotiate a price before the car goes in for work and phone several dealers to match the lowest price.

Just fyi........... the oil BMW uses is Castrol full synthetic but they wont tell you that because their oil bottles are stamped (BMW) to make us the consumer think that we are getting some special BMW oil which we are NOT! Do your self a favor and do your own oil change unless of course you like giving your money away...

Similarly, mine ended up being £177 for the oil change and £107 for the vehicle check.

It now says it needs the microfilters doing in 6000 miles, if i change them, how do you reset the idrive service message?

Its the last time its going to the dealer, as the warranty runs out in december, after that it'll be going to my local bmw specialist.

Filters and brakes etc i'll do myself, but for major jobs, i'd like to get the service book stamped, just for when i sell it, it'll have a full service history.

Microfilters are a fairly simple swap out. Just do a search on microfilters and you're away.

Resetting the i-drive can be found here
