are all e60 coolant expansion tanks the same for bmw's?
need a new one for my car. is there any reason NOT to buy an aftermarket one?

My Ride: '06 530i, '07 C280 4matic, '98 ML320
Genuine BMW coolant tank is around $82.
Behr coolant tank is around $55.
Please note the cap is a separate part number.
If you think $82 is too much, Behr is a good brand as well for $55.

I would definitely stay with one of these name brands, and not buy some Chinese knock-off that has the thickness of a milk jug.
The BMW coolant system is pressurized in order to raise the boiling point of the coolant and a cheap, thin tank just won't hold up.
Hell, for that matter the OEM tanks don't hold up long to the repeated heating/cooling cycles and pressure.
