Exhaust pipe squeezed and bent - Should I be worried?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys, this is a general question towards the BMW experts here who know more about metal than I do. I was following BMW torque spec to fix the exhaust bracket from the transmission on my E60 M54B25 AT. I have attached the picture but it is not clear. Anyway, this bracket that goes around the two exhaust pipes has a bolt in the middle and is suppose to be torqued to 21Nm. As I was putting it back, the damm torque wrench kept going on with every quater turn I heard a crack noise. After a few good turns, I started thinking why the torque wrench is not clicking and thought to try the bolt next to it that I just tightened to 21Nm and it clicked. So, instead of continuing, I examined the bolt and the strap and much to my surprise, one of the exhaust pipe is starting to get squeezed/bent at the bracket. The round section in the picture is where the pipe is bent/squeezed and the pointer is the bracket edge that is squeezing the pipe.
So, I left the bolt as is. My questions are,
Thanks in advance and I hope nothing has gone drastically wrong here. |
Your fine. I cant see the picture very well, but sounds like your saying the pipe has a dent in it or you put it slightly out of round. Perfectly OK.

i wouldn't worry about that for a second.
