I notice some pictures of the diesel new 5 series has downturned exhaust and some are straight.

ALl the ones i seen here in the uk have downturned pipes.

Is this some british law that means they have to be downturned ? or is it a new thing where they are not ?

Starting end Feb production all 525d/530d cars come equipped with a particle filter which no longer requires the exhaust to be directed to the ground, resulting in having the same pipes as all other 6 cylinder engines. This was for me the best news that I heared while I was awaiting delivery of my car.

Downturned pipes: Old Euro III cars

Straight chrome pipes: New Euro IV cars (from March Build)
