Default exhaust on the 545i?

If I understand the exhaust on the way the e60's are designed is that it only goes through one tail pipe under normal cruise but once you hit the gas enough it opens up the second tail pipe to give it a little more growl correct?

Is there a way to have it setup to follow the same idea but rather when you open it up that instead of going through a less restrictive muffler instead it acts as though it is a straight pipe? I like the quiet that the BMW gives but it is far too quiet when you get on it.

There is a Mod...(i have done) whereby it keeps the second exhaust valve open at all times. I found a step by step...not sure if this forum or somewhere else, but I was able to do it by manipulating the vacuum lines located in the trunk behind the drivers side trunk lining. Just Google e60 exhaust valve mod....perhaps it will come up. 15 minutes ... no cutting and fully reversable!

This more just opens the second exhaust pipe. What I'm hoping for its too be able to get that nice quiet sound under cruise but when it would normally trigger that second valve it instead runs it straight piped to the outside world.
Quiet when cruising but quite a bit louder when you stomp it.

The issue with the e60 (545i speaking) is that you get two separate pipes from the headers that come together at the center box resonator to one bigger pipe that splits into two into one muffler and then two exhaust tips.

You will have to change out the muffler. Get an insulated muffler, which takes the valve out of the picture. The car will be slightly louder at idle, and noticeably louder on acceleration. But cruising at 65 mph will be a comfortable quiet hummm.

Are the two muffler cans actually connected by any piping underneath the car? if the pipe splits right before the muffler and then goes into two different cans I might be able to keep the valve cut one can off and straight pipe it instead.

Wish I could look but I have no garage and our ground right now is covered with snow.

Search for "Muffler" it will take you to explanations and possibilities. I had a Dinan mufler installed on my 05 545. Excellent sound without the drone. I now have a 2010 550 Msport. I will install the Dinan yet again,

check out my youtube channel, I did a muffler delete on my car and I have a couple cruising videos so you can see if its quite enough for you. It definitely growls when you get on the gas.
