Okay Gents,
I've been working with Garry from Newport on some 166 wheels and am about to pull the trigger on some 166's after I hear back from a couple members Ive been in contact with regarding selling their old set. (I know some folks seem to think the 166 is played, but I hardly ever see them here in CO and I do like the styling)
I saw on the group buy forum you can get the rear 9.5" wheel with either the ET28 or the ET17 (M6 set up) offset. From what I understand I can get the ET17 set up which is about 11mm wider at the rear then the standard M5 wheels.
Has anyone installed these (ET17) or is anyone currently running M5 wheels with spacers at the rear?
I want the wider stance, but not if they are going to rub, so I wanted to see if anyone had some knowledge on this issue.
Let me know and I wont bother anyone else about wheels.............maybe
As alwasy I do appreciate the information.

17 will not rub - in fact, I went further and put another 3 mm spacers on the rear, effectively running et 14. No rubbing or any other issues. You can click below on some of my pics in my signature.

with ET17 at the rear, you wouldnt need spacers and the wheels would be flushed with the fenders. with ET28 in the rear, member vt ran this setup with 12mm spacers, which brought the offset to ET16.

Yup, ET17 is the way to go. I am looking for a wet too. Can Garry at Newport get them in ET17?

You got silver car.. go to 166.. it will look better... I know guy with 167 with silver and doenst look that nice because color of wheels are dark.. Also will show your rusty caliper unless you are going for big break kit

hey easy on the silver comments I have titanium silver and the 167s and I have had more than enough compliments - however, it's personal preference I suppose. The 167 is a wierd wheel anyway, sometimes it can look small and sometimes they just look deep and huge!
I had this dilema and I went for the et17 rear. They fill out the back end nicely and I have the full sport suspension (not lowered it anymore) and no rubbing at all.

Me, I'm arguing between 167s and 128s. Easy to clean is my first priority, followed by light(er) weight.
