Well, after a lot of thought and recently realizing I had lots of reward points on my American Express, I jumped on the Escort. My current radar detector is the Cobra XRS R7. It's at least 4-5 years old now. I love it and never got a ticket with it. (knock on wood) What I like most about the cobra is the voice alerts, which the Escort has too. The Escort has GPS; I would have had to pay about $130 for the GPS add-on for the Cobra. After reading up a lot I've found the cobra radar detectors aren't the same caliber as the V1 and Escorts. I also have an Escort S2 Solo, but I put it in my GF's car.
I only had to pay out $130 for the 9500ix, so that gave plenty of room to buy the supercup and hardwire kit. Having only paid $130 I'll also jump on the 3 year Defender database and the Extended Service Plan. When it's all said and done I should still be only $200'ish out of pocket for a nice newer product. I can't wait for it to arrive.
For those of you with the 9500ix, do you have any hints or suggestions to make the transition easier for me?

I have a Escort 8500, and a 7800 that I don't use anymore. I did manage to get one ticket with my 8500, but I was doing 97 in a 70. It alerted, and I saw him at the same time- I guess he wasn't focused on me at the time, because my ticket was for 84/70 ($180.00).
I treated myself to a Valentine One, and I had it about a year, then some bastard drove into my parking lot at work, and broke into my truck, and 4-5 other people's cars, and stole only high-end stuff (V1's, Escorts). All the folks with Uniden and Cobra's were untouched. I hadn't heard of anyone getting a radar detector stolen since like 1992. My friend still has his 6 years later, and never takes it off his windshield; parks his car at D/FW and stays gone a week and no one messes with it.
Since that happened, I pretty much stopped using them- unless I'm doing interstate travel. I've had Bel, Escort, V1, Cobra, Whistler- I liked the Bel for the voice alert- but you can't beaat the arrows on the V1.
Alert: D/FW- several municipalities are looking into this new, undetectable radar gun. It hasn't been released yet (and as soon as it is, someone will find a way to detect it)- but, be on the look out- especially North Dallas, Addison, Plano, Richardson, Allen, Frisco...
Congrats on the 9500- hopefully it spares you some tickets.

Yeah, I place my Cobra up just above the center speaker. Been like that for years (in plan sight) in all my prior cars too. I guess thieves look for quality
You know, I strongly believe the same people that make radar detectors have something to do with the radar\laser guns. Just like Anti-virus programs and those that make the viruses. Job security!!
In this lab we're making the new undetectable radar guns; and just next door we already have the detector that will detect those guns. We just won't release them for a year or so.
