I had that error a couple of days ago when I disconnected my batt. Luckily one of the mechs at the dealer is an ok guy and cleared it for 20.00 My car was not covered under the recall.

If your car is not on the recall list then the fix will be:
Weak/Poor battery cable from battery (Rear) to the car.
My dealership replaced the whole positive cable from the trunk into engine bay saying that the poor cable connection/design triggered this pass air bag light.

This was 3 weeks ago so you guys should be getting letters or phone calls.

My Ride: 2004 545i TITANIUM GREY II on Black Dakota Lthr, Comfort Seats, Sports PKG, Premium PKG, Active/Dynamic Drive, NAV, Winter Package.
Mine came out twice, when the STEALER checked it the report came back two of the crash sensors behind the front bumper got corroded. STEALER wanted $900 to replace a $60 sensor as they need to remove the front bumper, I asked them to reset the message and that was it, never seen this message again.
