All are 3 liter six-in-lines with full aluminum construction with magnesium highlights, including the N52 and N53 (US 528i).
The new 3.0 l N54 non turbo engines (525i, 530i) has a completely new High Precision Injected 24-valve top-block.
It makes all the difference.

Correction: The new 3.0l engine is a N52. The N54 is the 3.o l twin-turbo.
Sorry for the dis info.

Sorry for the dis info.
Correction: Both engines are non-turbo one producing 255bhp the other 272bhp
The twin turbo engine is named 535i and not 530i
I believe the original post was concering the differences between the two 530i engines N52 & N54

N54 is similar to well known M54 engine, second awarded best engine of the years 2001-2002-2003 with first rated the S54 (M3 engine).
BMW uses the same engine block with the same bore/stroke dimensions ...it probably uses the same crankshaft/rods/pistons/camshats) but it has got a direct injection and two small turbos.
Infos: 1 2 3

This engine (3.0 L., 272 hp) is referred as N53.
The US 528i engine is a N53.
And the 3.0 l twin-turbo (535i) is the only one that goes under the N54 name.
