Hi Guys,
I have an E60, '04 with M54 auto trans 6HP19. What I have noticed is that my engine vibrates a bit or is a little loud lately. I have done fair bit of work on it, and engine oil I am currently using is Castrol Edge Titanium 0W40. I don't know but I have a feeling that you should not be able to hear the engine running from inside the car, let alone vibration. Am I wrong? Does other E60 owners can hear you engine loud enough and can feel a little bit of vibration?
Thanks in advance.

I posted something like this on my car awhile back. All i got were replies that made me think it was norml. But i decided to ask my SA about it and he said it was normal. I even had a printout of a service bulletin addressing this very issue, but he didnt even look at it. But after googling info on i, its not normal but i dont think its harmful to car either. Its something about insufficient dampening of the engine mounts. Makes the car hummmmm very loudly during stops. But once the rpm is up just a hair, the hummm goes away. Is this your symptom?

Well I dont know much yet since I've had my 530i for about month. But I experianced the same thing when I first got it. It seems like it idles to low and it vibrates when stopped. I had the idle raised a little bit and the vibration is gone. But it does seem to be a normal thing. A couple friends are BMW techs and its what they say. So just see if can get your local bmw dealer to raise the idle.

My father's 07 530i vibrates during idle ever since he got his car new in 06 and we visited the dealer three times about this issue and both the service advisor and the technicians said it was normal so I gave up. Although I don't think the famous inline 6 cylinder that bmw is so proud of should do this. Even a Mazda 3's four cylinder engine doesn't have such rough idle. We could feel the shimmy through the steering wheel and hear the humming of the engine in the cabin with all doors and windows closed, we realized once the rpm raised above 700rpm the jolts would vanish.

I've owned about 8 bimmers and currently have 3 bimmers. I'm not sure exactly what you're experiencing but from your description it sounds totally normal to me. From what you're describing I am assuming it's the same things I have on all 3 bimmers with M54 which is barely noticeable. In my experience BMW owners tend to be picky and hard to please for some reason. I know some people spent a nice chunk of change on this over priced/rated brand of autos. Because of this they expect it to be perfect or they have high expectations because the brand's marketing created this phenomenon.
