Engine Malfunction iDrive Warning Light

On my way home from work, my car suddenly showed the "Engine Malfunction" warning light on... and on the iDrive system it said to drive carefully and that the car will cut off power to the engine.
I then turned the car off and then turned it back on, and the warning disappeared.
Should I be worried here? Or does the iDrive trip out randomly sometimes?
