Hi,
Approx 6 months ago i was on the motorway and i lost acceleration and eventually had to pull over on hard shoulder to investigate. My car would start each time but kept going back into "limp mode" after 30 seconds or so. I was towed off home by the recover company and the following day my car was fine. This happened 2 months ago and also again today. It feels like there is fuel starvation as when you accelerate in any gear it just stutters and tries to stall. This morning it took 6 times to get the engine started and sounded very rough. Once it started I began my 70 mile journy home on the motorway with no issues. Literally 1 mile from home the car started with the engine fault and drive control stability fault. I just about managed to drive home at 10 mph in 1st gear. Please any help with this would be a big help folks......

Your signature doesn't mention what year it was born in...
Do you know if your e60 was affected by the HPFP? if so, has it ever been replaced?
There's a long shot it could be the Air Mass Meter as well, though there are very few reports of these going bad iirc.
If you can/know someone around you who can, hook up a laptop or code reader to the OBD port and read the error codes.
Also, explain more about this jammer you have please![Big Grin](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/biggrin.gif)

Hi,
My E60 is an early one 2003 petrol so dont think the HPFP is applicable as this is a desiel issue. I have just read the code on a MAC reader and its pointing to P16A7 which using the guide states its a ECM self-test - MAF sensor monitoring and puts the fault down to Wiring, MAF sensor or the ECM. I have had the sensor off and it is clean a s a whistle. Suprise suprise when i wake up this morning the car runs perfect and my mechanic friend is laughing at me. The code was still there tho so im not going mad....!!!!! The air filter box had allot of sand in it so hoovered all this up and cleaned throughout. Is there a way of testing the MAF sensor with a continuity test???? If there is a test can somebody tell me how to do this. I dont wanna be spending £140 for a sensor and this doesnt fix the fault.
Cheers

HPFP issue is a petrol engine issue, especially on x35i engine.
I believe you can test the MAF simply disconnecting the MAF electrig plug. If everything works when the wire is disconnected, it must be the MAF sensor that is faulty. You will get a MAF error of course but you can get rid of it later.

All MAF's look clean, even if they're broken. There isn't really a way to test them as well. Your best bet is to try a MAF from another car and see if there's any difference. I normally compare MAF's by doing a 0-60 time with both and checking the difference (12s vs 30s!, but that was on a turbo diesel) (audi), so I don't know if you will get similar results on a petrol engine. Maybe check this and look at electronic read out of engine idling speeds of both MAF's and compare?
