They fixed most of the sealing problems. They also put a big oil cooler on it, which supposedly helps the sealing problems too. The 545 was known to run high oil temperatures, which is hard on the seals.

HOWEVER!, Be warned that the 550 engine is still likely to developed the valve seal problem , which is QUITE expensive to fix. IF you have a choice, skip over the v8 and get the 535i with its turbo. I love the power of my 2006 550i, but I have both a valve cover leak (haveing to add a quart every two weeks) plus the white smoke when idling, that comes from the valve seals leaking. I discovered the valve seal problem about a week after my purchase with no warranty!
