Engine bay noise

Hi
I have now owned two E60 5 Series. After the vehicle is driven and stationary with engine off I can hear a high pitched whistle from the engine. Its clearly normal, but can anyone tell me what the noise is? Both vehicles are diesel. The first a 525SE D and the latest a 530 D Msport.
