Hi guys (and ladies),

I've been reading posts here for quite a while and enjoyed my time spent.

Even though I've owned 7 series and 5 series for over the past 20 years, I currently own a 530i.

I love the look of the cars and many aspects of the BMW's but I'm sick of the huge and frequent costs of the repairs. I've had enough. I just can't afford the costs to maintain anymore BMW's. So, when this car has another massive repair, I have to walk away from the brand entirely. I wish you guys the best luck and maintenance on your cars.

Not my experience driving BMW since 1987. Always bought used and piled on the miles. Currently running a 2008 535xi with 220,000km and a 2004 X5 3.0 with 290k.

Even my E34 M5 wasn't a money pit - sold it with 160,000km and the current owner, a friend, has put another 60k on it with no problems.

Hope yours doesn't let you down any time soon.

bummer, sorry to hear you've had so much trouble. 530i is a pretty DIY friendly car if you are so inclined.

good luck Matt Foley, hope you enjoy your time living in a van down by the river.

If you do your own work it is not much more to repair than a Toyota. Lol.

Wink The 530i Down by the River.

Ahhhhh, "KyleB" you got the inside joke and that's not my real name. But it was the best and most appreciated avatar title I could think of. As for the van, it is parked down by the river next to my 530i which gets the same gas mileage.

Like I said, my 530i has had quite a few expensive repairs but is a beautiful looking car. You can't beat black interior and black exterior. And the superior handling can't be beat. Not even by Mercedes. But I really hate the bizarre dashboard lay out. It's not user-friendly. I've driven many rental cars as part of my job and every single car I've driven did not need to read the manual to figure out what is what. When I first drove it, I said to the salesman, what is this and how do you do that? I've had the car now for a couple of months and I still have to access the manual for important and basic issues. I never had that much trouble with the 7 series cars that I've owned from 1994. So yeah, it's a beautiful car and anyone who sees me getting into and out of this car compliments me on the car but the cost of repairs has taken the joy of the car out of owning the it.
