Electrical smell in boot, and control system failures
All, I am hoping someone can shed some light here.
I drove to work with no troubles, came back to the car one hour later, and there was a hot electrical smell coming from the fuse panel in the boot/trunk.
On key on, I get all sorts of errors on the iDrive, starting with Transmission Fault, Dynamic stability control fault, ABS fault, and absolutely no attempt to start.
It seems like the smell is coming from either RL2, or the hidden RL1 power relay thats in the fusebox itself (behind the little grille next to the black relay)
I have checked to see if the Micro Power Module in the spare wheel well is waterlogged, and its dry as a bone.
Can anyone suggest what might have failed?
Many, Many thanks!
Paul.

Look at connections and wire sheath cracking. Something might be touching what it's not suppose to touch or condensation has ruined a connector.
